Benevolent Local: Holiday Gifts for a Cause

WHATGraphic District is a mixed media art project that celebrates the holidays with a local twist and provides holiday shoppers with a local and conscious card selection at the Washington Project for the Arts gift shop, called Icebox, featuring crafts, jewelry, housewares and small works of art, all handmade by WPA member artists.

Fifteen percent of the sales from the Graphic District cards go to support House of Ruth, a domestic violence center. The cards, created by artist Candace Schilbli, are recyclable and combine the artist's contour works with inlays of local street art and graffiti. WHAT: Coinciding with the release of  its latest zine (focused on Economic Empowerment), Bittersweet Creative Group is hosting a holiday pop-up shop with goods from a dozen local artisans and entrepreneurs. Think handmade hipster neckties, vintage tins turned candles, re*architected vintage finds, paper goods by Simplesong, knitwear by de*nada design, accessories by ethic, textiles and bags by Amani Ya Juu, and the list goes on.
